Occurred: 1996-06-17 00:05 Local
Reported: 1996-06-17 00:00 Pacific
Duration: 10 sec.
No of observers: 1

Location: North Delta (Canada), BC, Canada

Shape: Light

A young man was unloading his van, following a hiking trip.

At about five minutes after midnight, he saw a very bright light in the sky, which he took to be "the landing light on a Cessna," except for the fact that is was "ten times" brighter.

The light, a solid, non-blinking one, appeared to be coming over the trees, and the observer estimated it to be at 5,000 feet in altitude, or less.

He called NORAD at Cheyenne Mountain; finally got our number from Comox AFB in Canada.

The same night, he observed approximately six satellites, which provided him with a comparison with what he had seen.

The caller was still audibly excited about his sighting at the time of his call.

Suddenly, the "thing" just accelerated very fast, going from an estimated 150 mph, to 800 mph, to 1,500 mph. It went out of sight in 10 seconds time, or less, from the time it started accelerating.
