Slowing moving and stopping then blinked and gone

Orange object that at first sight thought it was Mars but object was moving slowly. It continued to move slowly and then stopped after moving about 20 degrees. The last position as we looked was almost overhead. The object seemed to dim and flare then instantly disappeared. A very freaky incident. Made me feel very uneasy.
