Star suddenly moved at high rate of speed

I saw a star in the northern sky that suddenly became brighter and brighter. As I watched, it suddenly darted to the left and flew away, at a rate of speed much higher than any aircraft, and disappeared. It was much higher up than any airplane. The entire observation only lasted 1-2 seconds.
