Bright ball of light blinks away

While driving on the I-5 North to Salem, my eye caught a solid ball of light hovering a couple hundred feet (if that) above the mountains on my left.

It seemed as though it could have been a bright white solid radio tower light just above the tree line or something. I kept my eye on it trying to find the tower it was attached to. As I got close enough to see that there was only a single bright white orb above the trees and absolutely nothing else around it, the light just turned off. There was nothing in the air after the light went out. It was like someone was floating above the trees with an extremely bright light and then just flipped a switch and turned it off.

I drive by this strip of road frequently and I could not explain where a bright white floating light would have come from.

I have had my eyes to the sky since I was a child observing space, I have studied physics, astronomy, astrophysics and know for certain that this could not have been Venus or Jupiter, however it did shine much brighter.
