| After being parked facing north in San Timoteo canyon to watch trains and possibly catch a nap before hitting the road to Phoenix, we sighted a glowing to the off to the left (west-northwest in direction). I was parked in the driveway of the old school house, just to the west of the El Casco Fishermans Retreat. The light I first assumed to be a flare from an aircraft, but I soon had my doubts. The light seemed to be moving in a more side to side manner than I have ever observed of a flare before. The light soon moved at an angle down, and to the north. I cannot be certain of wind conditions in that area, but there was a slight easterly breeze in San Timoteo canyon. The light also changed its color or tint from a more orange to a red as it moved down and to the north. I attempted to gain a better visual of the light using my telephoto lense on my digital camera, and managed to get a few photos of a rather unsatisfactory quality. I did not have a tripod, but I attempted to use the door of my truck. We lost sight of the light at around 00:05 on Sunday. |
