2 bights lights traveling together faster than an airplane then suddenly fading and disappearing

2 Bright lights traveling N or NE. It was too dark to see anything other than the lights but they were moving simultaneously as if attached to some large object (like a blimp). The lights were moving faster then a plane across the sky. As I watched, the lights seemed to grow dim and suddenly disappeared. There was a moment before they disappeared that one of the lights seemed to flash blue. I have seen plenty of planes at nigh and this was not an airplane.
