Bright fast object moving across sky suddenly vanished

While walking outside to my garage I looked up in the sky around 9:30 pm I could see a few stars in the sky which is rare since we always have clouds. I saw a very large bright "something" moving fast in the sky going East. I thought it was a Satelite but have never seen one that bright. I kept my eye on it but then a flash of lighting was seen in the distance, however I never took my eyes off it then it suddenly vanished. The sky was clear.... It was no where in the sky to be seen again.
