NUFORC Sighting 81701

Occurred: 2011-06-03 21:30 Local
Reported: 2011-06-09 00:43 Pacific
Duration: 2 min.
No of observers: 2

Location: High Rock Lake, NC, USA

Shape: Light
Characteristics: Lights on object, Aura or haze around object

One Orange light turned on, then off. Moments later, two Orange lights turned on and off, farther away. SEE BELOW

Myself (age 38) and brother (age 33) were fishing on secluded bank of High Rock Lake about the Buddle Creek area, facing SSE at twilight. Some stars were out. Air traffic was light before and after sighting.

Looking just over treeline of the far bank, we both saw an Orange light turn on quite bright, then off, EXACTLY like a lighthouse beacon made one rotation. We both made comments, and kept our eyes peeled.

Within two minutes, slightly to the left and farther away (same altitude?) we saw TWO Orange lights, together in unison, repeat the same action, but slightly dimmer. As if a car's headlights made a u-turn in the sky. There were no strobes or position lights, or even a solid object. Just the light appearing/dissappearing.

The sky was clear. We later observed random aircraft, a shooting star, and three satellites.

I am a Navy veteran (F-18 mechanic) and learned to recognize various aircraft by their different lighting patterns at night. Our father is a pilot building a kit aircraft. Our family has attended air shows since we were in diapers. I have to say we are airplane "nerds", and aviation runs in the family since WWII.

I personally have been obsessed with Flying Saucers since childhood, and have watched the sky daily and nightly my entire life.

I must stress that NEVER have I seen anything I could not identify, military or civilian, until now.

NUFORC Note:

We spoke via telephone with this witness, and he sounded to us to be exceptionally mature, capable, disciplined and sober-minded. We suspect that he is an excellent observer, and reporter of fact. PD
