|Fast moving orange light over San Diego.
Extremely fast light flying just over the lowest rain clouds sometime between 10:05 and 10:10 pm, Thursday October 6 in San Diego, California. This light was traveling from south to north. The light was not white. It was very bright, somewhere between the colors orange and red. It was larger than any star in the sky; maybe 3 times the size of the largest star you see. Of course it could be a meteor; but I do not think so. It did not look like any meteor I have ever seen. I have seen a lot of meteor showers. It seemed like it was flying level and just over the lowest cloud layer. No sound.
There is not much to this sighting. It only lasted a couple of seconds. If you extend your arms at full length, just over one and a half feet apart----the light traveled that much space in the sky in less than 2 seconds. If you consider straight up as 90 degrees, then the light was traveling at about 70 degrees south to north. I was standing near the corner of Washington Street and Front Street here in San Diego. Front Street runs north and south, so I knew the direction the light traveled.
I did not have my watch with me to get the exact time, but the sighting was between 10:05 and 10:10 pm, Thursday October 6.
It had rained earlier in the day; so there were patches of clear sky and low patches of rain clouds. The light was not seen further north because the clouds blocked the view further north.
This area has a lot of jet traffic for the San Diego airport. This light was traveling at least 5 times faster than any jets in this area. And again, no sound and the light was nothing like a meteor in my opinion. The light seemed self contained and traveling flat just over the lowest clouds.
