|Massive Horse-Shoe Shaped Object, 7 Gold Lights, No Sound, Low and Slow over Duck Key, FL.
I work as a security guard on a small island community in the Florida Keys called Duck Key. I drive around the island all night patrolling, taking breaks every so often to stretch my legs.
After doing some rounds I parked my patrol vehicle on a small street facing South-East at 11:10pm. I was looking down at my I-pod when I heard rain drops hitting the roof of the car. I look up and see it, doing a double take thinking in that first split second it was a jumbo jet or something because of the immense size of this thing. Then as I looked more it become clear it was not a plane.
The object was U-shaped like a horse-shoe with 6 or 7 gold lights along the bottom edge. It was, or at least it appeared to be, about a quarter mile away and only a few hundred feet off the ground. Making no sound at all, moving at a steady slow pace, it flew from SSE to NNW. It seemed to be following the cloud cover from the rain storm. I saw it for only about 10 seconds until it just vanished before my eyes.
The last few seconds I saw it I was outside of the car so I know it wasn’t light reflections of something on the wind-shield of the car. I immediately got back in the car and drove NNW trying to follow its path to see it again. I got as far as I could without crash into the damn Gulf-of-Mexico, having never seen it again. I’m hating myself for not even thinking about taking a picture the entire time I observed it, I didn’t want to take my eyes off it.
I went back to see if I could find anyone else that may have seen it but could not see anyone out and about. The rain was a huge factor considering how many people would stand outside in the rain looking up at the sky, not many. I thought for a minute about calling the sheriffs office but didn’t even know what the hell I would say to them. Not to mention I could lose my job over this, but at this point I don’t care.
I’ve seen planes, blimps, ultra-lights, kites, Chinese lanterns, balloons, shooting stars and helicopters before, but never anything like this before in my life. I’m glad I did, I just wish I wasn’t alone that night.
