Red Flying object over lake shore Dr, Chicago, IL

Were walking back to our vehicle after seeing the fireworks for the new year celebration, my wife, my daughter and I were walking thru the area near field museum in front of lake sore drive, this red circular light was flying on a very erratic pattern, it was too high to be a helicopter and too low to be a plane. The flying object went back and forth for about a minute then made a circle and left at a crazily fast speed to disappear.
