orange/red ufo over Tucson blinks out

Arriving home from grocery shopping I exited the car and paused to admire the clear sky and stars. I turned looking east toward the city. We live out of Tucson up in the Tucson Mountain foothills and therefore we enjoy a wonderful view of the twinkling city lights. I observe aircraft regularly but one light over the middle of Tucson caught my attention. It was a ball of orange/red light moving at a typical plane speed traveling south to north. I studied the movement and light trying to figure out it's color, orange or red? It seemed to be organically shifting from more orange to more red. I thought atmosphere may be tricking my eyes. It was a solid unblinking color. For reference, there were two other typical planes in the sky over town at the same time and their white lights with blinking green and red lights were easily visible. I was waiting to see the familiar plane blinking lights but none were seen. A funny coincidence happened then when I was! startled to realize that this was no ordinary aircraft. The amber light stopped moving as I felt an adrenaline wave. I then noticed that it changed directions promptly and appeared to be headed west in my direction. I sort of panicked and ran in to get my husband and our two boys out to see the "UFO". Eventually they all came outside. The light grew or glowed bigger as it approached, though still many miles away. Although it seemed to be coming straight toward us it started to lose intensity and brightness growing smaller and smaller. Then we all saw the light as it blinked out, nowhere to be seen. We looked and waited a few minutes for it to reappear but it did not show up anywhere. My husband was a skeptic about ufo's until he saw this thing he could not understand.
