|We saw 2 separate tight circles of exploding lights which eventually stopped and locked into a cluster formation..
I am a 27 year old man and this is my first time posting anything like this, I hope that someone else saw this to, and if not this exact event possibly something similar. Here is a detailed account of what me and my 68 year old mother saw on October 17th 2012.
I opened my front door to take my trash out at about 11:05 pm est and I saw what at first looked like a small, very tight circle of 8 to 12 extremely bright, white, stationary stars due west of my location in Dunedin, Florida. There seems to be 3-4 prominent lights that are much brighter then the others, then 7-8 or more smaller lights beaming out in all different directions. I just stared at the cluster unable to look away for about 2 minutes. I then began to notice a blurred halo/aura effect around the perimeter of the cluster. At that point I yelled across the house for my Mother to come look and verify that she was seeing what I was seeing, and to bring me my digital camera.
She was shocked when she saw the tight cluster of lights and started asking me what could possibly be making such a bright circle of dots in the sky, stating "it looked like a cluster of stars exploding". By this time it started to resemble an explosion in space to me as well, like there had been a central object and all the lights were shooting out slowly in all different directions from a central point and then just stopped in place. Then the area in the center of the cluster of lights which had been dark, suddenly had several smaller lights appear and begin to twinkle and blink in and out in different areas in the center of the cluster. I took my digital Sony Cyber-Shot 2.0 mega pixel camera and attempted to take some pictures, but as soon as I would turn it on it would blink low battery and turn off. I had brand new batteries in my camera so I have no explanation for this. I then took some batteries out of a remote control and tried again and I got the same res! ult.
It was at this time some clouds moved out of the way to the south of the first circle of lights and a second circle became visible, although this circle was much dimmer then the first one. Both circles seem to be remaining stationary as far as their position in the sky, while the lights in the center of the circles continued to twinkle/sparkle and change location inside the cluster. I have never seen anything even close to this in my whole life, and neither had my Mother who is 68 years old.
I immediately started searching online to see if their was any celestial events visible from my location, and there was nothing listed for 10/17/12 at all. I then began a search to try and identify what I was seeing and I couldn't find anything even close. My search is what finally led me to this site, where I figured if I couldn't identify the cluster of lights in the sky I could at least share my experience with others, and maybe someone else had seen the same thing and could confirm it.
