Orange spheres and white lights over the coast of South Carolina

I was on vacation with extended family at DeBordieu Beach in South Carolina during the week of August 4 -11, 2012. We were staying in an oceanfront house and on August 6th I went down to the end of the boardwalk to watch the ocean and look at the stars at about 9:45 pm. While there I saw an orange light, circular in shape, come on over the ocean, then a few seconds later another. The first light then dimmed and went out, followed by the second light. Seconds later another light followed by two more. All three dimmed and went out in order of their appearance. This went on for about 15 minutes, the orange lights coming and going sometimes 2, sometimes 3 or 4, always dimming and extinguishing in order of their appearance. When they stopped appearing, I saw a group of white lights moving across the sky, away from the ocean and over the beach and the houses before disappearing. They were not blinking and they were not in any type of uniform order, just a ! group of white lights. They did not start out over the ocean in the same spot as the orange lights, but a bit to the south.

I did not mention what I had seen to the family because I knew they would make fun of me! However the next day I looked up “orange lights over the coast of South Carolina” on the internet and this website popped up. All the descriptions were very similar to, or exactly like what I had seen. I told the family then and another friend and her family who were staying a few blocks down the beach. Of course there were skeptics, so I challenged everyone to come out on the beach the following night, August 7th, to see if the lights showed up again. We headed out to the beach at about 9:15 pm and waited patiently. Sure enough, after about 10 minutes the orange spheres lit up again, exactly as before. My friend and her family were was also on the beach in front of their house. We had our phones and took photos of the lights and stayed in touch with each other to verify what we were seeing. The only difference in this sighting was the departure of the white lights. This time i! t was a larger group of lights, brighter and twinkling. It moved more quickly and was located to the north side of where the orange lights had appeared, instead of the south side as had been the case the night before, but again moved away from the ocean over the beach and towards land. As before, the orange lights stopped after the white lights disappeared.

I looked for the lights the following night, August 8th with my niece and my son. This time we saw only a few or the oranges spheres blinking off and on, lasting about 10 minutes and no white lights. I have about 12 photos of the lights. I thought about posting soon after I witnessed this, but finally decided to post now because my friend told me she read a story about the lights in the Charlotte Observer newspaper yesterday, November 1, 2012. I finally decided I needed to share what I had seen; every sighting might help to figure out what these mysterious lights could be.
