Two glowing orange balls in sky over london

My friend and I were driving home in north London when we saw two glowing orange orbs falling at tremendous speed from the sky. I thought that they were possibly meteors and we were sure they were going to crash.

Suddenly, as we turned the car around a bend in the road and I reached for my camera phone, one of them changed direction and flew west. It moved so fast we couldn't track it. We looked for the other one but it had completely vanished. The first one was just above the tree line when it changed direction.

We had just left my friend's daughter's house and as we were getting into the car, her 3year old grandson was babbling excitedly about a Christmas tree star and pointing up at the sky. We had all laughed and told him that he must have seen an airplane. It was only a few minutes after this that we had our sighting.

We were both very shaken by the experience and would like to know if anyone else saw this or can offer an explanation.

I am 50 year old teacher and mother of four sons and my friend is a disabled grandmother of eight. We are at a loss to explain this as we regularly see all types of aircraft (including military) here.
