Hovering light in the sky then started to move across it and suddenly disappeared

I was walking my dog whilst looking at the stars. I saw the brightest 'star' hovering in the sky and I was interested because it was unusually big and bright. Then it started to move across the sky, twice as fast as a normal plane, and when it got so far across the sky is disappeared. I knew it wasn't a plane because after that I saw 2 planes in the sky and their light was very dim and it had a red light flashing.
