Basketball sized orb of light, burst with intensity after about 2 minutes then disappeared.

In 1991, during a summer night I saw an orb of light in Elk River, Minnesota. I was 8 years old and had a friend over who also witnessed the orb. I remember that just before seeing the orb we were watching the tonight show on a 13” black and white TV.

For whatever reason we stood up to look outside my bedroom window when the orb floated down from above the maple trees, stopped 20 feet from the ground (about 15 feet away from us). The orb was about as big as a basketball. It hung there for a few moments, then burst in an incredible blinding light for a second and disappeared. The experience scared me for days.

I have not seen one before or after this incident.
