Shiny, reflective, chrome-like sphere sighted in the flight-path over LAX.

Landing at LAX approaching from the west coming in from the Pacific Ocean. Coming down through patchy cloud-cover while descending towards LAX, and over the city itself, there was a shiny, reflective, chrome-like sphere visible in between the clouds. It was not concealed by cloud-cover, it was in the open air between the clouds. It had some sort of appendage hanging from the bottom of it that made me think that it looked like a woman's shiny bauble earring, almost.

Cannot recall exactly what was appended underneath but the object had a main, large, spherical, shiny body and then a second component below it. It was not nylon or a tether hanging from it; I don't think it was a weather balloon.

We flew by it so fast that I did not take a photo of it and it struck me as incredibly odd, and very dangerous, considering that it was directly in the flight path to LAX, and at the same altitude as the 777 that we were in.
