Starting about 21:30, my wife and I saw a dancing light in the sky. We thought at first it was a star. However, it moved, initially toward us, then it literally danced, moving rightward very rapidly, changing directions and jerkily moving around.

After watching for a while, we saw that it moved jerkily in a closed pattern, not a circle, but going all the way around. After watching a while longer, we went to our apartment at Riderwood Village, turned off the lights and saw it through the window.

I am a physicist so I know it was not a satellite (because of the jerky motion) and not a star (same reason), so the question is "what is it?".
