|? Huge round/oval object, many attached lights, no sound, very slow moving night time sighting.
This possible sighting occurred many years ago (almost 60 years now). But in all that time I have never forgotten it. I have only spoken of it a few times since it took place in my home town of Fitchburg, Mass. The specific area of the city known to locals as Cleghorn. The actual spot was at the approximate corner of Chester street and St. Andrews street. Two of us were walking toward a park/pond (the pond is gone now) known as Parkhill Park, which was several block away.
The essentials are as follows: In mid-fall of 1959, a friend and I were walking home from a boy scout meeting held at a local church hall. It was dark, the weather was clear and stars were visible. The time was between 1930 and 2030 hours. Why we both suddenly looked up I cannot remember, but we both saw what at first appeared to be a grouping of small stars moving very slowly in unison toward our location from the direction of the park, above the tree line. As this grouping of lights came closer it gave us the sense that these were not stars but lights attached to something very dark which we could not make out all. Whatever it was, it was huge. The sense I got was of either a round or oval shape to which all these lights were attached. These were white lights like the stars, they did not blink or change color. This 'object (s)' completely blocked out the stars/sky as it came over our heads. This was a slow moving object, smoothly gliding/floating in a straight direct! ion, not bobbing or meandering, moving straight. We had stopped walking by this time. It was completely silent, no noise and eerily no other sounds either (this was and still is a pretty settled neighborhood). As it passed over us it also passed over a 3 story building (what we referred to as a triple decker-a sort of tenement house if you will) we were standing next to. We lost sight of it as it went over the building and so we quickly ran around the corner of the building to get another view of it, but in the several seconds it took us to run to the point where we could get a clear view, it was gone, completely gone. We were so scared, we both ran home as fast as we could. I never told my parents about it and never spoke to my friend about it either. Unfortunately as so much time has passed, I lost touch with this boyhood friend many, many years ago, but to this day, I have not forgotten about it.
