Fast falling light in the south southeast sky turning from white to green.

I live out in the country, I was burning my trash when I noticed in the south southeast sky an unusually bright star high in the sky, while I was looking at it, it got brighter and started falling towards the ground the closer to the ground that it got the faster it fell about 1/4th. of the way down it slowly turned from white to green and got brighter untill it got about 1/4th. of the way from the ground and fissled out. The whole time I did not hear anykind of sound.
