12th August 02 - Chelmsford, England Slow moving object with amazing manoeuvring capabilities
Last night was very clear and I was in my back garden to observe the meteor shower. Whilst watching I observed what I thought was a satellite. I watched it move as slowly as a satellite for about 40 seconds (it seemed like longer) moving from north to south, then it sped up and made a sharp move to the left, moved in a wobbly semi circle, then moved back to the line it was on previously. It then 'brightened/glowed' then disappeared. What I saw initially looked like a star, it moved the whole quarter of the sky. It was not a meteor as that was happening in a different area of the sky and was much too slow.
This object seemed to be on a 'path', it could not have been a plane, it moved far too quickly in such a 'defensive' or 'offensive' manoeuvre. I’d love to know what it was.
