Red pulsing light above Los Angeles in August

I saw a news report on TV about the red light in LA and did some web searches and found this sight.

I thought I was the only one to see this but my story is similar to others. I saw a bright ruby-red light that hovered in one area in the northern sky of Los Angeles. It seemed to pulse slowly then more quickly and finally disappear. I saw it twice in the same spot to the north. I didn't see it move at all, it just hovered, then pulsed and then disappeared. I called the satellite office of Griffith Observatory once to report it (they gave me the same story that I was looking at Mars). I called the second time to see if anyone else had reported this, again they said no, I then asked them to log my call in case any one else called in and to keep an eye out in the northern skies. The second time was the last I saw of this light.

I'm thinking this was some sort of laser coming from the Mount Wilson area scanning the sky, maybe even conducting some tests due to the fact Mars was so close to Earth. I don't know, it's just my theory. The more exposure we can get on this the better chances we have of figuring out what it was.

Another interesting fact I have noticed is that most if not all sightings were from the San Gabriel valley area (I also was in that area), more specifically Monterey Park and Montebello.

NUFORC Note:

Many other reports of a sighting of a red light seen hovering over the area east of downtown Los Angeles. PD
