Light that faded into the cloudless night sky

I went out to do some shopping when I looked up into the night sky. There was a light/star in the sky about 15-10 degrees to the left of Mars which was like a searchlight. There was no aircraft noise or other flashing light. The light was very intense. As I looked at the light is slowly faded asthough it was travelling away at high speed straight up in the sky, until it was totally gone.
