saw 3 lights flashing in country sky

My cousin and I were camping out in my backyard to watch the meteor shower. We saw several faint falling stars. Then we saw a bright light flash twice in the Northwest sky, the next second it flashed twice lower, and then it flashed twice in between the first two areas. That was it. We were saying, "what the heck was that???" We lived out in the country and I had grown up in the house and knew very well that there are no towers around that would have lights on it.

I do not know if it was 3 objects, or just one moving around.

We, of course, kept watching the sky, but saw nothing else like it.
