Two bright objects next to each other going in an upward motion.

My girlfriend and I were out on the back porch smoking when we observed two lights in the sky. They were apart from one another but one seemed to be following the other. They were moving in an upward fashion.

As they were going up the lights were getting harder to see and then they disappeared. The lights were very bright and they seemed to stay the same distance apart. It was nothing we had ever seen before.
