Orange Glow in north west Harrisburg, Pa, Sky

Two of us witnessed a bright orange glow in the north west sky at about 8:40pm. It was intensely bright and then slowly dimmed until the regular night sky was visible. The sky was cloudy and foggy so we did not have a clear view of the object causing this.

This bright glow was stationary and did NOT move in any direction, nor did it fall to the ground. It lit up the sky like daylight for about one minute then slowly faded!

Did anyone else see this? What was it, a meteor, a planet burning up? What is the logical explanation? It couldn't be the space shuttle, that landed two days before!
