Four lights hovering in the sky near Tawas, MI, that appeared and disappeared and reappeared....two flew close together

We were watching the moon which was very bright white as we drove along state road 55 at approx. 9-9:30pm on Thursday night 8/26/10. There were four bright gold/yellow lights hovering on our right side as we headed toward Tawas, MI. The lights would hover...then disappear, then reappear. The two to the farthest right would fly close together and then fly apart.

The weather was clear and the night was very bright from the moon. There are very few artificial lights out along 55 since it runs through farm country and toward Lake Huron.

We are both college graduates, professionals in the field of education. We are over the age of 60.

We are of course trying to rationalize this sighting because people might say we are "nuts."
