June 6th, 2011, egg or disk shaped object seen over Eastern Phoenix area

On the afternoon of June 6th, 2011, while I was sitting on my back porch, I saw an egg or disk shaped object moving across the sky. I watched it for a few minutes, thinking it was a weather balloon or something, but then it changed direction 180 degrees and stopped. That got me up on my feet!

I couldn't tell what the heck it was so I went inside the house and got my binoculars. This was no weather balloon!

I watched it hover in place for at least 20 minutes. It made no sound. It was flashing or strobing a silver light and seemed to have no definate shape. Sort of like an egg or disk shaped plasma, chaging and distorting as it hovered. It was up very high (I'm guessing above 10,000 feet)so it is difficult to say how big it was.

I took a few pictures of it and got a quick video clip of it on my camera. Interesting images when they are enlarged...it shows something, but what I don't know.

I'm pretty sure this was not military. For one thing it was the middle of the day.

It was over a fairly large civilian population and in the controlled airspace for planes on approach to Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix. That is what alarmed me.

From what I have read on these things it looked like what is often discribed as a Foo Fighter.
