White lights that multiplied

It was cloudy outside so i know it was not a shooting star, We were at the stop sign at the end of the dirt road and we noticed this huge bright white ball shaped light. and then as we began to drive closer it multiplied from one light to two lights then to three lights and back to one again and then it just like shot off really quickly.
