amber lights over South Carolina coast

We were sitting on the patio of our condo and saw an amber/orange light appear in the sky. We thought originally that an airplane had emerged from and then disappeared back into the clouds. It then reappeared and disappeared several times in various locations across the horizon. The final image appeared to have one central light with 5 to 6 lights jut off to the left. After the lights disappeared, (perhaps 15 to 30 minutes) a very low flying plane appeared to follow the horizon from North to South.
