NUFORC Sighting 85879

Occurred: 2000-01-13 23:30 Local
Reported: 2011-12-16 07:26 Pacific
Duration: 2 minutes
No of observers: 1

Location: Motherwell (near Glasgow) (UK/Scotland), , United Kingdom

Shape: Sphere

While doing some amateur astronomy, I observed a large pulsating orange sphere moving very slowly from north to south. The sphere was the colour of fire and the pulsating was like a very slow strobe, not quite dimming all the way out and becoming exceptionally bright orange when it started to brighten up again during the pulsing.

I am used to observing aircraft of all types as that is one of my hobbies and this object was not a conventional aircraft in my opinion. The thing that clinched the sighting was my phone call to a local airport. The phone call was made within fifteen minutes of my sighting. I asked to speak to the control tower and to my surprise they put me through. I asked the control tower if there was anything in that area of the sky at the time of my observation and they said (after asking me some relivent questions to where I was and posistion etc) that there was nothing in that airspace at that specific time. The person I spoke to informed me they had UFO report forms and they would fill it in over the phone, so we did that. A week later I received a letter from the MOD saying that nothing was in the sky at the relevant position and time of my observation.

The report is on file with the MOD in the UK and can be seen here: http://www.mod.uk/NR/rdonlyres/9341B687-6100-4D03-992D-4FB5E45F0DC4/0/UFOReport2000.pdf
