extreme level flight, instant stop,hover, rapid disappearence

we where driving west about 1 1/2 miles from lake thunderbird when we saw an extremely fast moving light flying northwesterly over the lake, when directly over the lake it instantly stopped and stayed still,i sped up to try and get as close as possible. This light did not spin in one spot like a helicopter, it made absolutely no movement.We where approximately 1/2 mile from it, it appeared to be no more than 300 ft up, it was just simply hanging in the air,suddenly it shot off into the sky going up and westerly,it disappeared in no less than 2 seconds. This is my 2nd sighting.
