Dark circular object moving to the west from the Las Vegas Strip.

I have lived in Las Vegas 18 years and am a middle school teacher.

Last night around 6:30 I was lying in my back yard hot tub watching the clouds and enjoying a light drizzle.

A perfectly circular black object moved silently across the sky, moving from due East to due West. The circle was completely black, with no lights and no reflections of the lights below.

I live a mile west of the Las Vegas Strip, near the Palace Station casino. The object seemed to be following Sahara Boulevard.

I watched it for 20 seconds or so, until my view was obstructed by trees. I was unable to determine how high it was in the sky, or how large it was. However, it appeared to be skirting the base of the clouds. Because it was raining lightly, the clouds were lower than normal. Several times it looked to me as if the object disappeared into the clouds for brief instants.

Because of the light storm, wind was to the east. The object was moving in a straight line into the wind, which immediately seemed odd to me. I don't think a balloon would have traveled in a straight course against the wind.

Less than a minute later, a helicopter traveled the same course, from east to west. The helicopter was traveling at appx. the same speed as the object had been. I could not tell if the helicopter was a news copter, a police copter, or some other type. It wouldn't have been a tourist helicopter because they are restricted to the Strip.
