Formation of red blinking light coming from stars in the sky....

My sister and I took our dogs out one last time for the night and while we were sitting there, I told her to look up at that bright stars...At that time (one am in the am) there were 3 far apart from each other almost triangle appearance. Then I noticed two of them were blinking red lights. I would say near and way high above the east hills in San Jose, CA. About 2 mins of watching these lights, I went and got the binoculars and I watched one of them and it was jumping around, moving high and coming back down. Then all of a sudden we hear coming up from behind us (right about where San Jose Airport is) a helicopter. He went over our heads and straight for the middle of the two bright lights. To our disbelief, he took his place in between these two bright red blinking lights and now there are 4 perfectly spaced bright stars blinking red. Right now as I'm writing this, a helicopter just flew over the house back towards San Jose Airport. All I can say is they must be doing some kind of training or exercise .... I saw on this site others from San Jose saying some of what I'm saying, so I think it might just be routine ... Thanks
