Flashing light traveling up and down, side to side.

Observed a round light traveling up and down, back and forth traveling away from us. The light resembled what a star would look like except it was moving and would flash red. We sat in chairs in the yard and continually had to move them to continue to watch as it slowly drifted further away from us. We watched for an hour until it was to difficult to see any longer.
