Multiple lights gather and rotate around a center light, rotating faster and creating a circle light, a single light, then disappeared

This incident happened about 44 years ago. I’m not certain what year it this happened, It was either in the summer of 1978 or 1979 when I was living in Park City, UT. Some friends and I were sitting outside and had a small campfire going while watching the night sky. It was a full moon and several of us had binoculars so we could look at the surface of the moon and see the craters and features. I had received the binoculars as a gift from my fiancé, they were very good and expensive and I used them for bird watching.

As we sat back in our lawn chairs gazing at the sky, I saw a white light move across my field of vision and stop. I began to describe what I was seeing out loud in the hopes that someone else would be able to find it too. I saw another light come from another angle and stop near the first stopped light. And then another light moved in and stopped, and another light. There may have been a fifth light, I cannot recall. They formed a pattern and began to rotate in a clockwise direction. A light appeared in the center that was larger than the original lights that appeared around it. The lights around it, were circling faster and faster until they looked like a ring of light surrounding the center light. The center light became a flash of red and orange and all the lights became a single mass of light. And in that instant, it was gone.

I lowered my binoculars and asked if anyone else had seen it. Silence. I described it again. Silence. I got some ribbing from friends, but I felt that people didn’t believe me.

I could not get the event out of my head. I called around to news stations and the airport asking if anyone had heard of any lights in the sky that night. Nothing. A week or so later I called the Air Force base and was eventually connected to a man who asked me to describe what I saw and report it. I expected he was going to give me an explanation of what I had seen.

I gave the AF guy the description and asked if they knew of any satellite that acted like that. He said, No. I asked if they were doing any testing or maneuvers that night. He said, No. He said what I described would be what they called, ‘an unidentified flying object’. He asked if I would come in and file a report about it or, they could send someone to interview me. I panicked and hung up.

I had only told a very few people about this incident. But now that there is more open discussion about UFOs and UAPs, I feel like I can finally say something and not be ridiculed.

My explanation to myself was that it appeared that the smaller crafts were joining or docking to another center craft. After joining, all of them used their ‘forces’ for propulsion to relocate elsewhere.
