At the base of low cloud, bottom of saucer craft grayish with ring semi rectangular multi colored lights 100 ft diameter emerged

In 1977, my friend Skip, who was 18, and I, Rob, 17 at the time, were two teenagers walking south in a large field on Cherry Hill Road in Middlefield, Connecticut. It was a partly overcast day, likely in the evening around 7 PM, possibly in September. Both of us noticed something extraordinary emerging from a low, cloud-like area high above the center of the field: a large, light grey, saucer-like ship. This ship had a smaller ring of semi-rectangular, connected, multi-colored lights at its base. We stood there, calmly in awe. The ship appeared large and surreal. Our attention was particularly drawn to the lower ring of lights, which were more visible than the saucer itself as it descended from the cloud. Shortly after it emerged, my recollection becomes hazy; I only remember walking home. Decades later, in 2016, Skip contacted me, and the first thing he mentioned was the flying saucer. I had forgotten about the incident, but then, suddenly, it all came back to me.
