object speeds off turning at right angles as it goes

it was a very clear september night i was star watching with a telascope when i noticed a bright light flashing on off very high in sky. i knew it was not a plain as plain lights flash differently to what i was looking at. the object moved at great speed in a zed direction, i mean, forward/ back then forward again, so fast it was just a streak of light. then it was gone.
