Shape: Disk

A black disk moving in a due west direction at an elevation of approximately 1000 ft.

I clearly remember that Saturday like it was yesterday. I was 14 and took my bike out of the garage to go and find something to do. I rode a couple of blocks up the street to the canal, and was deciding whether to cross it with my bike or not, because it was a pain dragging it through the weeds and water to get it up on the far bank.

Just then I noticed a slow-moving black object coming from the east at a fairly low altitude. As it got closer, I could tell it was a circular shape, slightly raised in the center of the top and bottom. The object was not reflective or shiny. As I watched, it continued in a due west trajectory and nearly went over my head at my 1 o' clock position. It was completely silent. At this point I could see underneath it, and it was a perfect circle with no attachments to the craft and no openings. I would estimate the elevation to be only about 1000 ft, and at that height it appeared to be about the size of a quarter to my eye. I have no idea how big that would be if it was at ground level. After it had passed overhead, I remember "hopping" my bike up and down to turn it around so that I could keep watching it. The object continued due west, never accelerating, and eventually started to slowly climb in elevation as I lost sight of it.

It never really occurred to me at the time that it was a "flying saucer" because it didn't have lights on it, I wasn't seeing it at night, it wasn't doing any fancy maneuvers, and it wasn't silver or glowing. Just a plain black disk with a slightly elevated center at the top and bottom.

I wasn't afraid, just mystified. Puzzled, I went back home and told my mom about it, and she suggested that I talk to my dad about it as he had retired from the air force (and she probably thought it was a good father-son bonding moment). My dad was changing the oil in one of the cars, and I sheepishly asked him if there were such things as black round aircraft. He paused, leaned out from under the car, and gruffly answered "No!" Well that was the end of that. I didn't think more of it until years later. Crazy as it sounds, it just didn't register to me as being particularly important, and the fact that I assumed a lot of other people must have seen it and if it had been a big deal I would have heard something from the news.

I am a professional in my 50's with no history of hallucinations, mental health issues, or drug use. I know what I saw.

My primary objective in submitting this report is to see if this experience jogs anyone else's memory of that day. Someone else had to see this, there is no way I was the only one.
