White-translucen light radiating from sky in a spherical shape. Only a few seconds long. No major electrical outages in the area My Girlfriend and I were driving north on Shields and Prospect in Fort Collins, Colorado. We saw a bright light radiate from the horizon of the sky off to the northwest at around 12:30-12:45. It was as if something exploded. The light had to come off from a few miles away, as it appeared to come from the outskirts of the town. It lit up the sky like lightening but was too uniform, and only lasted 2-3 seconds. It was a translucent white color. The perimeter of the blast was a darker shade of white and more opaque, almost like a lining. When my girlfriend and I got to my place, she said it "looked like a bomb went off". This morning I called the local electric company and asked if there were any major outages. They could not give me a detailed account since it is the weekend, and they work strictly with reporting outages. I was connected to an on-call electrician who said he had not heard of any outages. When I explained what I girlfriend and I had seen, he ! said that that a blast of a high magnitude would have produced such a projection of light. The only thing in the area that was capable of omitting such a sphere of light was an electrical substation. The origin of the blast could have been from this substation, but not without frequent power outages as it would affect an electrical grid over square miles. I called a friend of mine who lives an area that would have theoretically been affected by the blast, as his house is included in the network of the substation. He reported that his power never went out.
