Sorry - false alarm; the bright orange light I saw was just a flare.

Sorry, but what I reported earlier tonight (within 30 minutes of the event) was apparently just a very steady-burning flare.

I saw another bright orange light later that evening and the second one had a visible parachute that took it drifting in the same general direction as the first light.

The first event occurred at dusk and I guess the lighting was such that a parachute couldn't be seen at that time.
