3 vertical red lights moving together over ocean

Anchored in boat at Cape Lookout, NC. Looked over ocean and saw 3 round red lights in vertical arrangement that never deviated in proxmity to each other albeit, they appeared to almost join one another. First saw at ~30 degrees from horizon and moved "upwards" to about 70 degrees. First thought to be wierd mast lights on sailboat but when comparing to local sailboats, lights were much more higher (at least 2X) andmuch more distant.

Lights did not move in pulses, zig-zags or blink. Gradually moved across sky in an upwards direction and eventually faded out of view at the apparent highest altitude. Very dark night and no point of refrence to allow distance comparison.......other than taller than lighthouse (2X) with red lights the size of small star and slightly less intensity than star.
