bright star or planet at 5 pm that disappeared

I was sitting outside by myself when I noticed this Star or planet apperance to the west of us.... Over the mountains.... i wondered to myself is it a planet out in the bright sun..... i kept looking thinking it was a plane coming in to land but the light was to bright and it did not move.....i looked away ...kinda rubbing my arms and I looked back up and it was GONE....thats all I have to say....but it is way to weird for me....because ....its not normal
