NUFORC Sighting 82811

Occurred: 2011-07-03 22:00 Local
Reported: 2011-07-30 13:33 Pacific
Duration: 1 minute
No of observers: 3

Location: Lake Roosevelt, WA, USA

Shape: Light
Characteristics: Lights on object

Saw three bright red-orange lights moving slowly in the sky above Lake Roosevelt.

My niece, her husband and I were using a high powered telescope to view different constellations around 11:00pm. We were on a bluff overlooking Lake Roosevelt. We were taking turns looking at Saturn and I heard my niece gasp, "What are those?" She was looking over my shoulder in the opposite direction from Saturn.

Turning around we saw three very bright red-orange balls (lights?) in the sky. They were some distance apart, did not look connected, and appeared to be moving slowly. They did not look like they were very high in the sky. They seemed to be directly above where the Spokane River empties into Lake Roosevelt. We watched them move towards us for about 30 seconds, and then my niece’s husband began to turn the telescope towards them.

Before he could get them in the telescope’s sights, they winked out. One at a time.

Thinking they must be some type of aircraft (military?) that if continuing on their course would pass overhead, we watched the sky. Nothing passed between us and the bright stars.

We decided to forget about it (after some teasing by the rest of the family), until I looked at your website and saw similar sightings in Washington State around the same time.
