Bright star-like light in daylight, like Jupiter but much brighter. Viewed by me for 10 seconds. Not moving, faded into nothing.

Hello,

In the sky to the south west while driving home I saw a light, like a star but much brighter. It was a clear evening, very few clouds and being around 7.30 to 8 pm, it was still very much light. The "star" was white and seemed to be at least double the size of how Venus or Jupiter would look on a clear winters night, yet this was in daylight.

I'm an educated man and have an interest in astronomy. I said to my partner who was sitting in the car next to me, I think Betelgeuse has gone supernova. I was so excited and couldn't believe it. I tried to show her where but she didn't see, I viewed it for what seemed like 10 seconds and then over a period of around 1 second it faded to nothing. I knew then that if a star like Betelgeuse had indeed exploded it should be visible for weeks or months. I rushed home and put on the news in case there were any reports of such things, there were not.

I mulled this around in my mind that night. The light was not moving, when it faded there was nothing, no object at all left in the sky. I found this website and thought I should report it. I would like to add that I am in my 30 s and have never seen anything like this before.
