Chinese lantern type 9,000-12,000 altitude. shut off light before entering cloud space but still remained visible, eastbound

Seen traveling eastbound about 9,00-12,000 feet altitude. Looked like the red Chinese lantern type, smooth and slow zig zag path. Stopped emitting light, just before entering open cloud pocket, however its light was still visible before entering cloud space, and still visible after lights were of. Dusk like atmosphere, barely light on horizon. Just one seen. Captured on cell phone video camera.
