Location: Kenosha, WI, USA

Shape: Sphere
Characteristics: Aura or haze around object

Spherical object sighted at night. Very fast. Changed trajectory in flight. Appeared to accelerate.

I was driving south on I-94 from the Racine Modine Benstead Observatory to Kenosha, WI. I was with my 11 year old son. The sighting occurred at approx. 10:45 PM. The sky was completely black and clear where we were. There were very active thunderstorms to the south in Illinois at the time, maybe 6 miles or more south of Kenosha. The weather records for that date and time would define exactly where the storms were relative to Kenosha. When near the Kenosha airport a spherical object appeared fairly high I my windshield and proceeded to my left (east) at a very high rate of speed. When it crossed the left windshield pillar it was visible through my driver’s side window. It the angled upwards and shot upwards at a slight angle and disappeared from view. It seemed to be accelerating at that time. The object was spherical in shape and not very bright. It also appeared to be fairly “hazy” rather than a sharply defined spherical shape. When I first saw it I assumed it may have been an airplane coming in for a landing but noted that it was far too high and too fast to be able to land.

I then wondered if it could have been a reflection from the interstate lights or vehicle headlights. I have never seen reflections like this before or since. I did not see anything else like it that night and I drove the same route weeks later at the same time of night on August 21 (another open house for the observatory) and never saw any reflections on that trip either. I also thought it could have been reflections of airport runway approach lights but never saw those lights on the ground on either trip or as reflections in the windshield or driver’s side window. I also wondered if it could have been ball lightening but the object was not nearly as bright as I assume ball lightening would have to be. It moved far too fast to be an aircraft and it definitely changed its trajectory while being watched so it could not have been a meteor. My son was in the ! passenger seat and did not observe the object but I did tell h! im what I saw and asked him if he had seen it. He can verify this. I would say that this would have to be called a UFO.
