Craft moved into clear area of sky

I was at the stop light. It's on a hill overlooking the town a bit towards NY so it's a very clear view and was a very clear night. An object appeared moving very fast into view of the sky while waiting at the light. I said " oh look a shooting st-" the object stopped on a dime for a few seconds it was maybe a few hundred yards high. So I began to just repeat " wtf is that what is that?!" And grabbing my girlfriend lol. She was asking the same thing we almost were in a panic because we couldn't believe what we were seeing. It was maybe oval shaped because of the angle of the hill or maybe tic tac shaped but not completely circular from the view of the angle from the hill and how low it was in the sky, if it were very I I would say definitively if it was flat or
spherical etc. the lateral view on the hill may have made it look flat. but was close enough that a helicopter would have an eye to eye view of it if it was in the air close by. Size not sure but not "mother ship" or science fiction HUGE just a smallish "craft" that was illuminated and had a white haze maybe from the light it was emitting in the dark sky background. But definitely the entire craft appeared to be "ball of light". As we were just in amazement not blinking at all, it light up bright and shot into outer space with a kind of white trail behind it. COMPLETELY SILENT coming in and then going out the atmosphere, not lateral, OUT toward space. I know it wasn't a shooting star. And not anything man made can move at that speed, stop on a dime mid-air then take off in a complete different direction to OUTER SPACE.. It wasn't anything man made not any balloon, I have my witness that tells the same story. And the whole time....not one car blew the horn to move, which leads me to believe others saw it because in NJ you sit at a green light for more than 2 seconds all horns are blowing. It's almost as if it was running from something then changed directions and shot into outter space. Best description is a home run leaving a ballpark a ball of light though at IMMENSE speed. Like one of those "tap Lights" that you stick in closets etc. But the illumination when it was leaving solidified that it was definitely some type of craft charging up then leaving in my opinion. The trail it made might be from the light bending as it left or it's power source,
which I doubt, but it was completely silent.
